The first time you need to translate a document, you might have some questions about the information to provide when requesting the translation quote in order to receive the response you want.
You might also think there is no specific information needed. Sometimes we receive quote requests as brief as:
“I need to translate 10 pages, how much will it cost?”
We are missing information, such as
- language combination and direction: What is the source language? What is the target language?
- specialization: Is it a contract, a scientific article, advertising material?
- word amount: 10 pages, how many words per page? Are there any images?
How important is this information?
The more accurate you are when requesting a quote, the more probability there is that the response will be:
- from a professional with the appropriate background,
- with deadlines that fit the task at hand,
- fast and effective.
Let’s go step by step.
3 essential pieces of information when requesting your translation quote
1. Specify languages and direction
Indicate the language when you request a quote. If you attach the text to your request (this is ideal!), tell us what language you want it translated into.
Even if you submit a text in Spanish, we shouldn’t assume you want a translation into English. You might need it into German or Russian, why not?
If you don’t have the text when requesting the quote, specify the language it is in (source) and the language you need to translate it into (target).
Why is this important?
This will help filter translators in our network.
Our main quality policy is that all translators must work towards their mother tongue.
Therefore, we need to know the target language so that you only receive responses from native translators.
2. Tell us about the specialty area
Specify the topic when requesting your quote. It is also fundamental to efficiently use our filter, so that you receive quotes from the best professionals.
If you have a scientific article, you’ll need a specialist in scientific translation.
The more precise you are when telling us the topic of your text, the better our filters will be, so that only translators specialized in that area contact you.
3. Attach your text or tell us how many words it has
When requesting a quote, attach the text. It is best if you provide the text you need to translate. You will receive quotes that are more accurate and the translator will better inform you of the delivery date.
You might not have the text when requesting your translation quote, or you might not want to upload it to the platform for confidentiality reasons (or other).
In that case, specify the number of words in the document to be translated.
If you don’t attach the text or indicate the number of words (at least, an approximate number), the translators won’t know how much work to input or how much time it will take them.
That is why it’s important.
You will receive accurate information and a precise quote.
That’s all.
Easy, right?
You can now request your translation quote.
